According to legend, the entire archipelago was once a single great island ruled by the dwarves of Clan Khaz; but at the center of that great island lay the powerful magocracy of The Colleges of Magic. The Colleges are easily the oldest continuous settlement on the archipelago - older even than those of Sylveria.
The Colleges are overseen by the Board of Mages, which is composed of representatives from each of the eight schools of magic and lead by the Archmage (who is supposed to represent magic users as a whole).

As the largest college in terms of attendance, this school is built on the large, westernmost island. The College of Divination and Illusion
Sometimes demeaned as “Old Smoke and Mirrors”, this college has a reputation for chicanery and general weird-ness. Despite that, the quality of scholarship is equal to the other colleges in every way. It is based on the small, easternmost island - and visitors will indeed find it quite odd - the untrained eye will be challenged by an incredible array of illusion! One moment, a visitor might be assailed by a torrential downpour of blood, the next, ensconced by a darkness and silence so perfect that one cannot hear their own heartbeat, and then suddenly floating helplessly in a perceived absence of time and space. The College of Enchantment and Transmutation
Masters of worldly magic have a tendency to be bookish and haughty, which is reflected in the ivy-covered stone buildings of the northernmost island. Apprentice enchanters are expected to have memorized a canon of 128 tomes (without using any sort of magical memory aid!), and beginning alchemists are often seen lugging enormous chests of exotic ingredients (resulting in a distinctive hunched back by they time pupils achieve a journeyman status). Studying here is the opposite of fun - but visitors will find that the desperate students are eager to sell cheap custom concoctions and discount enchantments (no warranties or guarantees)!The College of Enchantment and Transmutation

The Commission on Necromancy
The practice of Necromancy is widely considered to be impermissible, and definitively evil. For this reason, the study of Necromancy is restricted to the academic understanding of this kind of magic. The Commission on Necromancy is an invitation-only group of academics who are the stewards of necromantic knowledge, who then also double as hunters and prosecutors of Necromancers.The commission has only one facility, a closely-guarded library hidden somewhere on the southernmost island. Even stepping foot on this island without the unanimous permission of the Board of Mages is considered a violation of Collegiate Law, punishable by expulsion, banishment or death.The Commission on Necromancy
